Have you ever wanted to be in multiple places at once? Pretend you can with this temporary tattoo!

In David Brin's novel Kiln People, the characters could upload their minds and memories into one or more temporary clay bodies, called "dittos", then at the end of the day, download the dittos' memories back into themselves. Almost every ditto is manufactured by Universal Kilns, and has the company logo stamped on its forehead.

I've created temporary tattoos printed with that Universal Kilns logo. The tattoos can be part of a great ditto costume, ideal for either Halloween, or Masquerade at a science fiction convention. The idea for selling these temporary tattoos came directly from David Brin himself. He'd really like to see a bunch of dittos running around Worldcon. :-)

Here is a low-resolution sample of my Universal Kilns logo:

The temporary tattoos are printed directly from Corel Draw at the highest resolution of my inkjet printer. Each sheet contains three tattoos, sized to fit on a typical forehead.

Charity Donations

For each sheet of tattoos you buy, $0.50 of your purchase will go to the charity of your choice. You can choose from the list of charities on the front page, or suggest your own.

How to Purchase

The price is $3 for a sheet of three tattoos, including shipping. There are currently two ways to pay for temporary tattoos:

  1. Money Order:

Contact me by email, at steve@sloan3d.com, with the number of sheets you'd like to buy, and your choice of charity, and I'll send you my full contact information. Simply send me a check or money order payment, and I'll send you your tattoos.

  2. PayPal:

I've heard horror stories about PayPal, so I'd like to hear about alternative services. If you have a different service that you trust, that does the same sort of thing, please let me know. I'll check it out, and if it looks legit, I'll be glad to sign up, and add it to this page as a payment option.

Costume Suggestions

Dittos come in several different colors, intentionally designed to look nothing like human skin color. Typical colors include green (the color of Kiln People's hero), orange, gray, black, and white. Greens and Oranges are cheap, and they're typically used for light housework, light labor, and running errands. Other colors are more expensive. Grays are well-rounded, high-quality, and most like their originals. Blacks have enhanced intellect and concentration. Whites, with their enhanced senses, are designed for sensual enjoyment. It should be easy to find costume makeup in those colors.

A typical ditto wears cheap paper clothes. Hospital wear would probably look right, either actual paper clothes, or scrubs. Whites in the sex professions wear the kind of clothes you'd expect them to. ;-) Wealthy characters are more likely to give their dittos very nice clothes.

Instructions for Tattoo Paper

(From the package of OfficeMax tattoo paper)

  1. Cut out image staying close to edges. Round off all corners.

  2. Peel image carefully from paper backing, starting at the very edge with a slight movement of the thumb (as in peeling a label off a backing sheet) and lift off the thin membrane.

  3. Place sticky side of tattoo carefully on bare skin by pressing with fingers. Skin should be free of creams, lotions, or cosmetics.

Tattoo Removal: The tattoo is eaily removed by washing the skin with soap and water.

Nail Decoration: Tattoo paper can also be used as a nail decoration. Apply tattoo paper as described above and cover slowly with clear nail polish laquer.

    Tips:
  • Do not apply sun creams.
  • Avoid too much moisture.
  • If tattoo gets wet, carefully dry with a beauty tissue.
